A real cottage...
A real cottage is one that creaks!
We have a limited number of cottages are available on site. These are nestled right next to the waters of Selat Durian (Durian Straits) that separate us from the island of Sumatra. From the kitchen window you will be abale to see a group of islands to the south that are called Neptune's Knuckles. As King Neptune lives just 35 miles south, it's only right that we should be able to see a little piece of him!
The cottages are in a traditional Indonesian style from Manado. Indeed the all-wood cottages were built in Manado then completely disassembled, shipped and reassembled on the site wher they now stand.
The cottages are constructed using a few types of local wood and crafted by hand. They will invoke strong childhood memories for anyone who grew up in a traditional wooden home. For anyone not used to wooden homes... They do creak and groan as the planks expand and contract, so don't be to surprised. The charm of a wooden cottage right at the waters edge is hard to explain. Coattages 1 - 4 occupy a lawn area and over look our 'enchanted forrest' comprising the 600 year-old mangrove tree. The lawn is a great place to bar-be-que or simply sit..
Cottages 5 & 6 sit on higher ground and are backed onto a small cliff. These are two bedroom cottages with a more private aspect and a more commanding view of the ocean to the south and, Neptunes Knuckles!
Each cottage is fully self-contained with attached bathroom and a kitchen complete with toaster, microwave, fridge, cutlery, kitchen linen. The bedrooms and kitchen are air-conditioned but in most cases, the air flow is so good that it is seldom used.

There are two distinct areas to the cottages. The front verandah is a quiet, secluded place with a lovely garden aspect. The 'main' area is the kitchen at the rear of the cottage. This is the entertaining area and is the place where guest spend their time at breakfast gazing over the waters.

There is a chef on-site and fully capable of knocking up any dish from western to local to Japanese and Chinese. For an undisturbed breakfast, simply help yourself to the fresh fruit and cereal provided. Coffee and tea are provided in the cottages as is a stocked fridge.

The cottages are a good place to lounge or act as a base for adventures into the hills nearby or exploring the many islands and beaches that surround Galang.

The world looks a better place with a view like this from the kitchen window.... Photo taken in December during the refurbishment of Cottage No. 5. This is during the SW Monsoon where for days on end, the wind blows at a steady 15-20 knots. You can see the swell pattern wrapping around from Coral Beach to the right towards sand beach on the left. The largest hill in the background is the highest peak in the area. The large island in the background is Pulau Abang and in the distance to the left of that, Neptunes Knuckles.
