Galang Anchorage
An adventure base
Whilst the initial primary function of the Base is an anchorage was to service the ships that lie at anchor, the property owner is a sports-fishing enthusiast and the sea around the Galang Anchorage are amongst the 'favourite' spots.
Covering some 70 hectares in total, the property has some dense foliage on the hills, thick and old mangroves and 4 islands within the limits of the boundaries. That it will attract adventure types is in keeping with the natural rhythm of the setting.

Whilst it is still a work in progress, the aim is to provide a recreation outlet. The cruising grounds of the Riau Archipelago are best in the region from Pulau Lingga up to the southern portion of Batam Island. There is a high concentration of islands in this area without the density of population. The Barelang Highway that stretches from Batam Center all the way to the tip of Galang Baru provides a valuable means of getting 70km south in a short period of time.

From the base in Galang the first islands are within easy reach and that's the attraction. That many of the surrounding islands are uninhabited is just a bonus! Whilst we are boating enthusiasts ourselves we have interests in other pursuits as well.

Bikin'
The location is three quarters of the way down the Barelang Highway. On weekends, this highway attracts many cyclists and not just locals! Some Singapore Cycling clubs are using this stretch to get away from the confines of the island city. Road cycling enthusiasts often depart Batam Centre early in the morning and do a return trip in about 10 hours. Off-road groups have many outlets in Batam and adventures in the Galang Hills means finding a path to a secluded beach or kelong for seafood.

Boardin'
With the worldwide appeal of paddle sports it makes sense for us to include this on our foreshore. Recently the Singapore Paddle Club paddled an Outrigger Canoe from Nongsa Point Marina to 'Neptune' Island. This was done as a test for the upcoming Neptune Regatta to introduce a new twist into the annual event.

Boatin'
Of course the boating crowd in Singapore are looking for more weekend getaways. Barelang offers a great way to get into the depths of the Riau Group in a short period of time. Within three hours of departing Singapore it would be possible to be standing on the dock of your boat somewhere in Barelang.

Divin'
There are good dive spots in the area and our own crew prefer Pulau Abang (10nm south) for its dive spots, beaches and spear fishing. But if you really wanted a great island to visit try just a little further south and Pulau Lingga.
Diving in this area is best during the Northeast Monsoon period when the visibility is much better. Observing the water from the site, we get consistent SW winds and this kicks the wave action up. Once the winds settle down it takes only a day or two for the clarity to return.

But one thing is for sure... The currents are always strong and so diving in this area is for the experienced only!
Fishin'
We have a Riviera 44 and the favourite fishing grounds are within a 3 hour radius of the base. Preferred spotslie just to the north of Pulau Sekeling (Neptune Island) and Pulau Blanding. Here the mixing of the Java Sea and the South China Sea are a meeting point for Barracudas and other large fish.

With so much around us, it's only natural that we get into the rhythm of our site and enjoy what it has to offer besides, there's nothing better than staying in a seaside cottage and enjoying the sea if even just for a weekend!
